The main purpose of the Data Discovery Expert Group (DDEG) is to support data creators and curators in planning, producing, and managing descriptive metadata to enable the effective discovery and reuse of research data across a wide range of disciplines. Through national consultation, the group will promote standards for metadata and data that support both machine-to-machine and human-to-machine discovery activities.
The DDEG and related working groups will also investigate and inform the development of the Federated Research Data Repository (FRDR), in cooperation with Compute Canada and other Portage experts, to ensure the effective discovery and access by scholars and general audiences around the world to data produced by Canadian researchers. This may include setting up appropriate alerting services, evaluating standards for metadata quality, and connecting data to other scholarly resources and outputs available on the web using authoritative sources.
Some of the areas of interest include: metadata standards, collections development, repository harvesting, data visualization, APIs, linked data.
